Organic Beauty With Essential Oil is an in-depth essential oil recipe book full of many recipes and ideas that can be used for inspiration when working with essential oils. Most of these recipes are easy-to-make and are intended for those new to working with essential oils. Its 328 pages are embellished with many lovely color photos.
As with my book description for Organic Body Care Recipes by Stephanie Tourles, I mention that the word organic is an adjective that loosely means living matter. It is likely that the use of the word organic in the book's title may confuse some consumers who may think that the book requires the use of certified organic ingredients. Crafters can use conventional (not organic) natural ingredients and do not have to stick with using strictly organic ingredients. However, I'm would prefer that books like this don't misuse the term organic in this manner. This particular book may be more accurately titled Natural Beauty With Essential Oil.
There is mixed sentiments to the hazards, implications and safety of using mineral oil for skin care. This book contains at least one recipe that includes mineral oil. It surprised me a little since to me personally, I would not expect any book labeled as "Organic Beauty..." or "Natural Beauty..." to include mineral oil, a byproduct of petroleum production.
As I usually mention for any recipe book, I suggest that those new to working with essential oils also obtain a second book that acts as a thorough introduction to aromatherapy and includes detailed safety information. Organic Beauty With Essential Oil does include safety tips, but I'm a little concerned that the 2-page section entitled "Essential Oil Tips" and isn't prefaced with the importance and necessity of treating essential oils with great care and respect.
Please use prudence and caution when using recipes in any essential oil book like this. I didn't have a chance to carefully look at all recipes. I'm looking forwarding to trying some of the recipes presented in this book. And I love that she includes guidelines and tips for creating your own natural food coloring. However, a couple others like the Cinnamon Stick Milk Bath that include 5 drops each of Cinnamon and Star Anise essential oil concern me as these oils can cause sensitivity/irritation, so that is a lot to use in a single bath considering that essential oils and water don't stay mixed and the oils could possibly wind up settling in one spot and can potentially cause a lot of irritation.
I'm also a little concerned with her Deep Cleansing Cat Litter Facial Scrub recipe. Although she clearly mentions that the recipe calls for 100% natural, unscented cat litter because it is made from Bentonite Clay, I'm concerned that any readers willing to try this may still buy the wrong type of litter. It's much better to simply purchase Bentonite Clay directly from a reputable source - I know of at least one advertiser on AromaWeb,that sells a number of different clays for cosmetic use.
