Wendy Robbins

Hello and welcome to AromaWeb! I'm Wendy, the founder, curator and author for AromaWeb. Essential oils have been a beautiful and remarkable blessing in my life. It's a joy and privilege to share their benefits and bring AromaWeb to you.

Whether you're reading about essential oils or choosing to take a class/course, it's important to scrutinize the qualifications of the writers, bloggers and educators that are presenting the information to you. Essential oils can play an invaluable role in supporting your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. However, it's important that you use them safely and with knowledge or you won't get optimal results. Not everything you read online, in books, in conversations or at meetings is accurate. Verify the credentials of the authors, speakers and educators that you consider learning from. Also verify all essential oil information before you implement the information into your own lifestyle.

With the above in mind, I've created this biography page to help highlight my educational background and experience for you.

Educational and Professional Background

About AromaWeb and its Founder

I've been working with essential oils for over 25 years, and I'm a professional level member in good standing of both the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) and the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA).

I'm a year 2000 graduate of the ACHS Certificate of Aromatherapy Program (Cert. Aroma), a 390 hour program offered by the American College of Healthcare Sciences. The ACHS Certificate of Aromatherapy program meets the Level Two (Professional) requirements of both the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy and the Alliance of International Aromatherapists. The American College of Healthcare Sciences (Formerly the Australasian College of Health Sciences) was originally founded in 1978 and is an accredited and state licensed institution located in Portland, Oregon, USA.

In 2009, I was honored to be selected as the American College of Healthcare Sciences' 2009 Famous Alumni. Read an archived version of The ACHS 2009 Famous Alumni Press Release.

In addition to my studies and certification with the American College of Healthcare Sciences, I have taken additional specialized masterclasses and courses of shorter duration. As often as possible, I also attend educational conferences held by the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA), the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), and Botanica. I also strive to attend each of the monthly educational webinars offered by both AIA and NAHA.

I continue to read extensively about essential oils and aromatherapy. I've reviewed over 70 of the most reputable books that I've read, and those reviews can be found within AromaWeb's Essential Oil Book Review area. As time permits, I also enjoy using social media and other avenues to network with other aromatherapists and professionals within other complementary fields. I love to avidly devour as much information as I can, and I enhance my overall knowledge by exploring other complementary health fields as well as natural skin and hair care.

Going back in time a little bit, I earned my B.B.A. degree with a concentration in marketing in 1988 from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I am a lifetime member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan.

In addition to my background in aromatherapy, I possess a strong background in advertising, content development, writing, graphic design and Web site development. I have been "online" since 1990 and have nearly 30 years of digital marketing experience, 10+ years of online customer service experience, 20+ years Web development experience, and have written hundreds of pages of educational and technical online content and print documentation over the course of my career.

This experience coupled with my aromatherapy and natural skin care knowledge has contributed to the ongoing success and popularity of AromaWeb.

In addition to my role with AromaWeb, I also serve remotely as the Marketing Manager for Natural Sourcing, a B2B supplier of bulk natural ingredients used by professional artisans, wellness practitioners and manufacturers in the production of wellness, beauty, cosmetic, spa, soapmaking and personal care product formulation. (Natural Sourcing offers its range of ingredients through its two trademarked brands, From Nature With Love (FNWL) and Praan Naturals (PN). FNWL is oriented towards sales and service to professional artisans, wellness providers and smaller scale manufacturers who purchase in smaller bulk volumes. PN is oriented towards serving larger scale manufacturers and wellness practitioners.)

Aromatherapy Beginnings and the Launch of AromaWeb

I first heard the terms aromatherapy and essential oils in the mid 1990s. Back then, I had no clue what an essential oil was. My personal life had been intensely stressful for awhile, and I hoped that this "aromatherapy thing" that I had heard about might be helpful for stress and relaxation. I was cynical in my aromatherapy beginnings, and little did I realize back then that essential oils are beneficial for so much more than stress and relaxation.

As I started to learn about, explore and work with essential oils, I was amazed at how they benefited me both emotionally and physically. I was eager to continue to learn all that I could about aromatherapy and essential oil applications and safety.

However, I still remember how confusing it was for me initially to try to learn about essential oils online. There was an abundance of conflicting, inaccurate and misleading information even back then.

I was fortunate to discover helpful and responsible book recommendations, and I'm grateful to have been offered invaluable educational suggestions that greatly helped me at the onset of my journey into realistic, responsible essential oil usage.

Over time, I developed a strong desire to help others and make it easier for them to find objective, brand-neutral information about essential oils online.

Armed with my growing passion and knowledge of holistic aromatherapy and my background in Web development and marketing, I was inspired to create and launch AromaWeb in 1997.

I am so honored and grateful to share that AromaWeb has grown to become a frequently referenced Web site that supplies extensive content and coverage of essential oils and the field of holistic aromatherapy.

AromaWeb initially began as a small site of only 15 pages. It now encompasses over 700 pages of essential oil and aromatherapy content.

My primary mission is for AromaWeb to continue to serve as a springboard that helps aromatherapy enthusiasts, students and professionals easily access objective, brand-neutral articles and guides, essential oil, carrier oil and hydrosol profiles, aromatherapy recipes, book reviews, resource links, plus educator and business directories.

Personal Interests

My favorite personal pursuits include handcrafting aromatherapy and natural skin care products, gardening, holistic living, spirituality, staying active, cooking, enjoying a primarily plant-based diet, music and playing guitar. Giving back and paying it forward is important to me, and I strive to do this to the best of my ability. I'm the proud mother of a remarkable, autistic daughter who shares a deep interest in holistic living, caring for plants, computer technology, film studies and the arts.
