At the core of Essential Oils in Colour is the ninety essential oil profiles that it presents (see list in table of contents, shown below). Each profile is known as a Caddy Profile, named after the author, and includes a visual and colorful pie chart that accompanies a list of the functional groups present for the oil. For each functional group, she lists the percentage present in the oil.

Rosemary Caddy explains that she studied hundreds of GC/MS reports and utilized the data to establish the information presented in her profiles.

For each profile, Caddy also includes a brief list that contains some of the constituents present in the oil accompanied by the color that identifies the functional group the constituent belongs to. Each profile also includes a list of the general properties and uses for each oil.
