Essential Oil Diffuser Blends for St. Patrick's Day

Essential Oil Diffuser Blends for St. Patrick's Day

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, St. Patrick's Day falls just prior to the start of the Spring season.

It's the time when many of us start focusing upon new growth and new beginnings, even if we still have cold temperatures and snow on the ground.

Commercially, I haven't really found any essential oils that are largely available from plants grown in Ireland. I don't want that to stop us from enjoying essential oil blends that can help us celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the onset of Spring.

I should emphasize that it does take a lot of plant material to produce essential oils. I don't recommend diffusing oils often just to make your home smell "nice," and I don't recommend running a diffuser continuously. Having said that, the safe, moderate use of essential oils has the potential to benefit our mood. Their mindful use can support our celebrations and the transitions into new seasons.

Below, you will find two diffuser blends that I created for diffusion on and around St. Patrick's Day. To keep things simple and more affordable, each blend intentionally uses only 4 essential oils.

Everyone can respond to essential oils and blends differently. These blends are offered as a starting point and as inspiration in discovering the blends that you will love and enjoy the most for St. Patrick's Day.

Directions

  • Select one of the essential oil diffuser recipe blends shown below.
  • Create the blend by adding the proper amount of each essential oil to a dark-colored glass bottle.
  • Each recipe contains only 10 total drops of essential oil so that you don't waste much essential oil if you find that you don't like the aroma.
  • Once you try the blend and confirm that you enjoy it and find it beneficial, you can double or triple the batch. However, when adding the blend to your diffuser, do not exceed the number of drops suitable for use in your particular brand and model diffuser.

Precautions

Essential oils must be used with care. These blends are intended for diffuser use by adults. Less is more with essential oils. These blends are undiluted and the blends contain Bergamot and Lime essential oils that are phototoxic. They should not be applied topically unless you use Steam Distilled Lime Essential Oil and FCF Bergamot. Be sure to follow all safety precautions and always research the safety info and contraindications for each essential oil that you are considering working with.

To Use

  • Add 1-3 drops of one of the below blends to your diffuser.
  • Every diffuser is different, so refer to the manufacturer's instructions that came with your diffuser to know how many drops is appropriate to add to your particular diffuser. Thicker essential oils and citrus oils must be carefully used in particular types of diffuser models including atomizing and ultrasonic diffusers. Check the instructions that come with your diffuser for specific information.

About the Oils Chosen for the St. Patrick's Day Blends

Below is a brief summary of the essential oils selected for these blends:
  • Spearmint Essential Oil possesses a fresh, clean aroma that can perk up a blend.
  • Lime Essential Oil is cold pressed or distilled from the green rinds of limes.
  • Bergamot Essential Oil is produced from the bergamot tree, a lesser known citrus that produces citrus fruits with a wrinkly green rind that results in a beautiful, uplifting essential oil.
  • Both of these citrus essential oils were selected for their bright, uplifting aromas that blend beautifully with the other oils in these blends. However, both cold pressed Bergamot and Lime essential oils are phototoxic when used topically.
  • Clary Sage Essential Oil was selected for inclusion in the first blend because it is a lovely, calming floral that blends so nicely with the other 3 featured essential oils.
  • Basil Essential Oil was selected for inclusion in the second blend because it has a bold, green, energizing aroma that many find pleasant.

Why Don't I Name My Recipes or Essential Oil Blends?

I normally don't name my blends on AromaWeb, but I know a lot of people prefer to work with blends that have creative names. A potential problem with naming my blends is that I'd hate to accidentally infringe on someone else's blend name or trademarked name. It would take me hours of added work to doublecheck to see if any of the names I chose were already in use. And in no way am I trying to intentionally mimic any blends that someone else has created.
