10 Essential Oil Diffuser Blends for Relaxation
This selection of ten essential oil diffuser blends can help calm the mind and promote relaxation when you are anxious or stressed. I especially enjoy diffusing these blends before bedtime to help quiet my mind and relax my body and get me into a restful state so that I can fall asleep more easily.
Everyone can respond to essential oils and blends differently. These blends are offered as a starting point and as inspiration in discovering the blends that help you relax best.
- Select one of the different essential oil diffuser recipe blends shown below.
- Create the blend by adding the proper amount of essential oils to a dark-colored glass bottle.
- Once you try the blend and confirm that it benefits you, you can double or triple the batch. However, when adding essential oils to your diffuser do not exceed the number of drops suitable for use in your particular brand and model diffuser.
These blends are intended for diffuser use by adults. Less is more with essential oils. These blends are undiluted and some blends contain phototoxic oils. They should not be applied topically. Because these blends include essential oils that can be very relaxing, avoid diffusing these blends while driving or when you need full focus. Be sure to follow all safety precautions and always research the safety info and contraindications for each essential oil that you are considering working with. Aromatherapy should not be used as a substitute for proper medical treatment.
- Add 1-3 drops of one of the below blends to your diffuser.
- Every diffuser is different, so refer to the manufacturer's instructions that came with your diffuser to know how many drops is appropriate to add to your particular diffuser. Thicker essential oils and citrus oils must be carefully used in particular types of diffuser models including atomizing and ultrasonic diffusers. Check the instructions that come with your diffuser for specific information.
Relaxation Diffuser Blend #1
Clary sage and lavender essential oils are naturally abundant in linalyl acetate which can be very calming and relaxing. Vetiver essential oil is particularly earthy in aroma and is grounding and calming.
Relaxation Diffuser Blend #2
- 4 drops Black Spruce Essential Oil
- 3 drops Bergamot Essential Oil Essential Oil
- 3 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
All three of the essential oils selected for this blend contain linalyl acetate which I love for its ability to help promote relaxation. This blend can help to ease stress and unwind. Black Spruce Essential Oil gives this blend, a crisp, fresh forest aroma. Bergamot Essential Oil contributes a unique citrus character while Roman Chamomile oil has a sweet, floral, fruity personality.
Relaxation Diffuser Blend #3
Steam distilled from fragrant orange blossoms, Neroli Essential Oil can be an amazing oil for easing stress and helping the body to relax and helping to unwind after a rough day. It's very aromatic and a little goes a long way. It pairs beautifully with lavender and petitgrain essential oils. Petitgrain Essential Oil is distilled from the twigs, branches and leaves of the same tree as Neroli Essential Oil.
Relaxation Diffuser Blend #4
- 5 drops Sandalwood Essential Oil
- 3 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
- 2 drops Virginian Cedarwood Essential Oil
At the heart of this blend is Sandalwood Essential Oil which can help to center, ground and relax the mind. Frankincense and Virginian Cedarwood Essential Oils also help to ground the body, quiet the mind and encourage relaxation.

- 3 drops Angelica Root Essential Oil
- 4 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil
- 3 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
Angelica Root Essential Oil is a powerful oil for helping to calm unsettling emotions and relax the mind. It blends very nicely with clary sage and Roman chamomile essential oils which both help to promote tranquility.

Fragonia Essential Oil is a bright, fresh cheerful Australian essential oil that I love to incorporate into blends when I need to revive and uplift my spirit. Aromatically and emotionally, it blends very nicely with the uplifting aroma of Mandarin Essential Oil and the calming, balanced floral aroma of Lavender Essential Oil.

Rose Essential Oil can be helpful when trying to soothe upset emotions that are making it hard to relax. Patchouli Essential Oil is very grounding and earthy, helping to balance out the intense floral of the Rose Oil. Bergamot Essential Oil is a lovely citrus oil that can help promote relaxation and soothe anxious feelings.
