Essential Oil Diffuser Blends That Promote Sleep

Essential Oil Sleep Blends

Having Trouble Sleeping?

Aromatherapy cannot cure sleep issues or its root cause, but using calming and relaxing essential oils before your intended bedtime can potentially help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep until your intended wake-up time. Of course, if you have insomnia or an ongoing, serious sleep disorder, you should first see your health professional to discuss your situation and gain treatment for the root cause of your insomnia.

If you sometimes have trouble falling asleep or suffer from occasional insomnia or sleep disturbances, read the extensive Aromatherapy for Insomnia article and take a look at the essential oil blends shown below.

Everyone is different, so there is no guarantee that all of these blends will work for you. However, these blends make a great starting point because they focus upon essential oils that have received a lot of praise in research and/or anecdotal reports for their potential impact on restful sleep.

Be sure that you understand the safety and contraindications for each oil that you use and that you understand how to properly use your diffuser.

Directions

Pick one of the blends shown above. Combine the essential oils shown in the blend into a clean dark-colored glass bottle to create a master diffuser blend.

To Use

  • Following the manufacturer instructions for your diffuser, add 1-3 drops to your diffuser and diffuse intermittently during the hour prior to your bedtime. Do not run your diffuser all night long.
  • Alternatively, you can consider adding 1-2 drops to a tissue or cottonball and place on your nightstand. Don't allow the essential oils to come into direct contact with your face or skin and remember that essential oils can damage furniture and delicate surfaces.

Lavender Essential Oil Tip

Lavender Essential Oil helps support relaxation and drowsiness, but using it in excess can have the opposite effect.
