Anointing Oils Made With Essential Oils

Anointing Oils Made With Essential Oils

Anointing oils are used to bless and purify a person or an object. Anointing oils have been used since ancient times and are referenced in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Refer to AromaWeb's article entitle Aromatic Botanicals, Aromatherapy and the Bible for information on the Biblical passages that address Anointing Oils.

Using carrier oils and essential oils, you can create your own anointing oils for use during prayer, meditation or during times in which you want to express your gratitude or intention towards a particular goal or outcome.

Anointing Oils

To make an anointing oil, add several drops of essential oil per fluid ounce of carrier oil and store in a clean, amber glass bottle. Refer to AromaWeb's Essential Oils for Spirituality article for a categorized list of essential oils that are known to be especially well suited for specific spiritual purposes. I encourage you to learn about each oil and learn about the safety precautions for each essential oil before incorporating into an anointing oil.

Do not apply undiluted essential oils onto your skin and do not use undiluted essential oils as anointing oils. Even a drop or two or undiluted essential oil can cause severe irritation or sensitization over time. For additional safety information, view AromaWeb's Essential Oil Safety article.

Alternatively, you can make an infused oil and use that in your anointing oil. AromaWeb's What are Infused Oils? article describes infused oils and explains how you can make your own infused oils at home.

A few drops of Vitamin E oil can be added to your anointing oil to help slow oxidation and prolong its shelf life.

To package your anointing oil, I recommend using a bottle that contains a rubber dropper top (not an orifice reducer) to make it easier to dispense the anointing oil without the bacteria from your fingers contacting the oil. [Sidenote: I don't recommend storing pure essential oils in bottles with rubber dropper tops because the concentrated essential oil will break down the rubber, ruining the oil.]
